I can Smart Search any day just not the present day. 8ch Elm Poe Nvr. Does the day have to bee completely recorded already for Smart Search to work. When I try to smart search today it says No motion data detected.
Cams elm3mpir50 used to have them on motion detect only then went back to constant record to use Smart Search feature.

What are the settings to allow smart search to work?
What setting will stop smart search from working?
Does motion detect have to be enabled for smart search to work?
Is smart search dependent on recording constantly 24/7 with regular?
I don't understand why smart search works and doesn't work on my NVR. Sometimes it says no data detected. But there is a whole day of data there. Or it just shows a little smart search for ten minutes or so and then skips the whole day to black screen.
It's such a simple thing to use and I can't believe I still have trouble.
I need to know exactly which settings make Smart Search work consisitently.
Thanks
There is no really a settings to setup, in fact this NVR i'm shooting this video with is default out of the box. I just add cameras, a HDD, let it record for a while and shot the video demo.
Her is the link for the video https://app.box.com/s/t7hu1p7g.....xtpq5xxjx8

I found that Smart Search depends on motion detection for each camera to be enabled in the Event menu. The Schedule menu does not have to have motion at all on a weekly basis for Smart Search to work.
Recap. For Smart Search to work you need to go to Events and click enable on the individual cameras Motion Detect.
Schedule which is under Storage Menu only needs Regular for weekly scheduling. Mine is on 24/7
This was a lot of work. I even took each camera off NVR and used configure software to double check settings on each ip camera.
It works now thanks everyone.

I am finding the smart search feature to be a bit hit and miss on results. I have played around with it today and sometimes it seems to work and sometimes it does not. watched screen for a while and made note of where motion occurred and even saw the little red motion symbol pop up. A few times the smart search would find it and others like my moving around in an area it did not. When it does find what you are searching for it goes by so fast and the video ends it's hard to tell. I wish it worked more like the find option on IE where it finds it and stops then you press next to find the next match if that makes since.
Hello,
smart search will usually jump from event to event showing what was triggered the motion event at a particular time and when the motion was initiated. Sometimes motion can be triggered multiple times in one period, making it impossible to jump from event to another event slowly. You could try to see if you can slow down playback while smart search is working and see if that works better for you. The intention of smart search is to capture initial events that were generated when motion occurred, including those events that might occurred one after another in one single small period. Remember motion is made out of pixel changes in the scene, so even if you don't see a large object creating the motion, there are other factors that the camera determine that change of pixels. If you truly want motion perfect then is best to use motion sensors instead.
