At around 8-16x on basically every DVR/NVR solution I've ever used, frame skipping becomes inevitable because quite simply it's not trying to achieve the same goal you seem to be looking to achieve.  The 8x+ range is designed for searching through large chunks of video, for instance 24/7 recordings with very little going on.  It simply plays back too fast to show frame data smoothly.  It's skipping too far ahead per tick to do what it sounds like you are asking.

If you are trying to go through large swaths of video quickly, might I suggest a different approach?  We have a new line of AI-enhanced NVRs that can tag your motion events as Person or Vehicle and do a fantastic job of eliminating false positive motion recordings like trees blowing in the wind or moving shadows.  They can also help sort through facial recognition by categorizing and sorting for different attributes like facial hair, glasses, sex and more.
