Hey, I would like to purchase this NVR, but not the cameras they suggest that the DVR only works with. Is this true? Do I have to buy those 3mp cameras? Can manufactures restrict NVR's like that to only work with certain products? or can I purchase any other camera?
Its a 16ch PoE NVR 3mp. And listed below it says "compatible only with these cameras", and the seller lists 3 fixed lens 3.6mm cams w/ pix. I don't want those :/

Hi,
If you are looking for a solution that you wanted to work seamless then I recommend you get Elite series equipment. Now there are other options like onvif cameras but they usually are more restricted and not all the features of the camera can be controlled from the nvr, specially if they are connected to the build in POE. Manufactures sometimes do restricted there equipment to work with certain manufacturers only but onvif is a well known protocol that many manufacturers are adopting. All of our NVRs are onvif compatible and we have certain cameras we offer that work with our NVRs that are Onvif. if you would like to know more about onvif I will suggest you click on this link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ONVIF and understand how it works.
