Be mindful of what you set up. The default values are good more most people. Which is once the first hard drive is full the second gets record on. After both drives are full the oldest footage is recorded over first.

I was under the impression that with more than one drive if you didnt assign cameras to each then once the first drive is full it will never be used again. Which seems kind of a waste to me, so i want it to always utilize both.

That is not accurate. Basically the unit fills up the first drive then fills up the next and repeats until completely full. Then records over oldest footage first or first drive. This is the default setup no matter how many drives you have.

The reason it may not use the second drive is you create a group then assign cameras to that group. Then tell the dvr group is drive 1 or something. Now you won't record to both drives. That's why I recommend leaving the default settings in that area. The only reason I can come up with to really change it is if you are using Esata for storage as well. Then there is some manual configuration to be done to operate as expected.
