One of your responses about adding a camera to Dish net was close to my problem, but not close enough to make it work. I have several Surveillance video cameras. I bought several Blonder-Tongue video modulators, along with a combiner. I ran a RG-6 cable to my house from the combiner output, and split the signal to both television sets. Both TVs can pick up any channel using antenna input. I am currently using channel 9, 11, 13, 25, and 71. These same channels are not in use on my Dish channel lineup. I want to be able to view these channels on my Dish DVR, rather than having to change to the TV antenna in, then change back to Dish DVR. I have the Dish Hopper with sling (hprslng), Joey2.0, and HT1100. The HT1100 allows me to pick up local channels that Dish does not carry. It is a small unit that plugs into the DVR via USB, and all works fine. I tried adding a splitter, then a Diplexer to add the Surveillance video feed to the antenna cable, but the Dish will not pick them up. I tried adding the diplexer just before the DVR on the SAT line, and the Dish still works OK but still will not pick up my Surveillance video cameras. So I bought some Blonder-Tongue agile video modulators, but it is the same story. Am I doing something incorrectly, or will the DVR simply not pick up the signals? I have several more modulators, so changing to different channels if need be is not a problem.

Hi,

Are you referencing this article if so HT1100 is a Ka-Band modem not a satellite box. The article referenced the DP 40 and one without the DP from Dish Network. The modulator does not have to be expensive a simple one with a few db gain will assist on getting the signal through. If you have the model numbers of the recorder, diplexer etc. and can also get me a makeshift diagram on how you have it connected I may be of assistance.

Thanks for the quick reply. You're correct - the HT1100 is my modem, I just went to Dishnet and looked up my equipment. The adapter to get the antenna stations to the DVR via USB is an OTA Dongle.

The line from the outside dish goes to the "Sat in". My TV is HD but does not have a HDMI port, so the RBG (bottom row) on the DVR goes to that input on my TV. The row above that - White, Red, and YLW go to a common modulator (channel 3 & 4). Coax from the output of it goes the Joey2.0 on my second TV. The second TV has HDMI so it is fed by HDMI cable from the Joey2.0.

I tried taking off the coax from the Satellite, and putting it into a diplexer. I ran a short coax from the diplexer to the DVR, and the coax from my camera feed to the diplexer. That did not work. I tried adding a diplexer to the line between the antenna and the OTA Dongle, that did not work either. I tried taking the antenna out of the picture and ran the camera feed directly into the diplexer, that also did not work. Then I bought the agile modulators, and repeated all the above procedures, which also did not work. (I have a splitter on the coax from the camera feed going to the second TV, which I can see from the main TV, and the camera feed remains constant.) I tried 2 different diplexers, "Perfect Vision PVDP3 diplexer", and a "Holland STVC". They look identical but for the brand.

The picture of the whole back of the Hopper is from the Internet. The partial pictures are of mine, as is the picture of the Dongle.

The OTA Dongle for the Joey 2.0 is for Digital channels it cannot handle any analog channels. This is possibly the reason why it does not see the transmissions.

I understand. Is there still a way to get my channels on the Dish lineup?

I wouldn't think you would be able to do that as the Dish Lineup is being received by the Echosat (satellite EchoStar 119). You cannot interfere with this transmission as it is both encrypted and sent with a frequency that only authorized hardware can pick up such as your setup box.

Thanks for the reply. Now I know what direction to go, i.e. making my signals digital so the dongle will pick them up.

Let me know if you find a solution to this issue. There are some solutions to this on the web unfortunately since I do not own a Satellite system anymore I cannot recommend any.

At the moment when I wrote this Article I was able to use my Dish Network Setup Box along with the items in the article to accomplish this.
