Installed new hard drive and still couldn't see it when I went to format it. Unit is steadily beeping and the HDD light is on. Could it be the cables?

Did you use a Surveillance Type drive? Also, ensure that your power adaptor is in good condition, testing with a 12VDC 5Amp power supply should help test this.

Actually I saw the option to format so used a regular HD.
I just ordered a surveillance drive, WD Purple, and will install that Thursday when it arrives.

Do you have another 12VDC 4Amp or higher power supply? As aforementioned the adaptor may not be providing ample amperage.
