I recently purchased the 16-Channel Hybrid Federal Series and have it setup and working great. I would like to investigate how I might integrate the security cameras with my home automation system. (All current cameras are analog using the DVR side of things)
My ideal situation is to be able to display static snapshot images (refreshed on a timed interval) on the computer screen. However, to do this I would need to either be able to pull the current channel's snapshot from the DVR every XX seconds or have the DVR FTP snapshots to the computer on a timed interval.
I have not been able to figure out how to do either of the above options, if possible at all. The best I could come up with is to email the snapshots upon my triggering an alarm, but that is not a very good option as I would like them refreshed every maybe 10 or so seconds.
Thanks for any advice or pointers that you might can provide!
Adam
Adam,
Here is an article that i wrote, its not directly for this but it has the information that will help you.

I saw that article as well as one related to adding the video feed to a website; both were informative and I was able to get the video feed, but the snapshots still elude me. The article related to the time lapse seems specific to IP cameras unless the Hybrid DVR exposes the same Onvif interface for analog cameras?
That article really is exactly the situation I am trying, but with analog cameras.
Thanks,
Adam
Unfortunately only the IP cameras that are connected to that Hybrid will allow you to do what I have on the article. It is because you are using the Onvif Port and analog cameras are not Onvif .

I've wanted this same thing for years, for the same reason and to create time lapse overviews of my properties, but have never figured it out. The FTP portion of your network settings can interact with the Snapshot settings found elsewhere, but the closest I ever got to having it upload scheduled snapshots to my FTP server resulted in my ISP saying it looked like a denial of service attack where multiple connections were kept alive by the DVR (one per channel) and only a few images got through before the ISP's filters locked it out. TechPro set up a DVR on their internal network which worked fine uploading snapshots every few seconds, but that's too much traffic for a public network and there's no way to choose an interval of minutes instead of seconds.
What I do now to create time lapse from analog cameras is download the entire day and decimate the frames using public domain software AviSynth and VirtualDub to create the time lapse. It works well, but there's a learning curve and you have to download GB of video. Still no way to have a web page grab images every few minutes.
Please, anyone who has solved this problem, let us know!

Here is an article for Time Lapse. Hopefully that works for you, the only back draw is its only IP cameras.

I got it to work! I am using the hybrid, but this is working for the analog cameras:
http://user@pass:%5BIPADDRESS%5D/cgi-bin/snapshot.cgi?channel=0
(cameras seem to be 0-indexed)
Hope this helps you!

Thanks for your post.
Doesn't work with my analog DVR... assuming you meant to replace 'user' and 'pass' with valid login credentials and 'IPADDRESS' with the dyndns URL which lets me log in. My browser doesn't seem to understand the URL, tells me to check the spelling and try again! Did you do this on a local net with numeric IP or on the public net?
Jose, do you know if this is a feature of only some DVRs or should it work on all of them?

I'm glad someone got the snapshot working on one of the DVRs. That link does not work on my analog DVR either. I have been trying to do the same thing--get a snapshot for a home automation setup--and came across that link a last year but it only seemed to work for the IP cameras and not the DVRs. I'm guessing RogueProeliator has a newer DVR than those of us who can't get it working and this is something that was recently added into the firmware.
It would be nice if we could get details about which DVR's here had that feature and which did not. I was thinking about upgrading to the 16-Channel Hybrid Federal Series. I have quite a few wifi IP cams from smarthome/insteon (basically rebranded foscams in most cases). I use these in addition to my wired CCTV surveillance system since they play nice with integration and home automation programs.
Does anyone know if these cameras are supported on the 16-Channel Hybrid Federal Series?

I don't know about the IP camera support, but this is the DVR that I am using with the provided URL. However, given the fact that others on different DVRs cannot access the snapshots via that URL, I am hesitant to upgrade firmware or do any updates for fear of losing that ability.
The only caveat that I have found is that you have to throttle the requests... too many in too short of a time (such as requesting all channels at once in multiple threads) tends to balk. However, requesting them back-to-back with virtually no pause is working fine.
DVR's and NVR's have a different "URL" to access the snapshot. The feature will always be there.

I currently have the 8 Channel Ultimate Mini Series D1 Realtime Security DVR. What's the url for that one? I had contacted tech support when I first got it last year and was told none of the dvrs or nvrs had this feature.
Also, do you know if the hybrid nvrs support the insteon/smarthome cameras?
Insteon Smart Home Cameras are simply a re-brand of Foscams. Many Foscams are not Onvif this means that they will not function with our NVR's,Tribrids or Hybrids, When it comes to third party cameras they have to be Onvi Compliant and the Version 2.0 or greater, Since Onvif Implementation has to do with the camera Manufacturer not all the cameras features might work as the Manufacturer may or may not have full implementation.
DVR's SnapShot URL:
http://user@pass:ip-address/cg.....?channel=0
Depending on the DVR's Firmware you will have to follow these instructions here.
NVR's Via Onvif Port:
http://ip-address:9988/onvif/m.....e/snapshot
What is your DVR's Firmware?

Thanks for the confirmation - I appreciate that. After hearing that others were not able to access it I feared it was a development or retired feature that could go away at any time. Thanks for your help.

Try this:
//
http://192.168.1.101/cgi-bin/snapshot.cgi?[channel=1]
This will ask you for credentials and will send you to the correct URL

Yes, that works, almost. I had to add ":88" to the IP because as you suggested I'm not using the default HTTP port.
So I guess the reason the user@pwd:IP syntax doesn't work is that MSIE sees the colon and thinks it's got an IP and a port, not credentials and an IP. Is that it? If so, how can it work anywhere? Is it only usable with the default port of 80?
