i have a "Digital Watchdog Vmax 960H Core 8-cams" for home use. the cams are Northern IR960 types with BNC connectors.
this DVR doesn't have network backup capability so i can manually or schedule backup to a network storage device. one has to plugin a USB stick.
not that impressed with this DW brand so i'm looking for recommendations for a new DVR that has more functionality/user friendly search/backups to a local network NAS.
I believe this DVR would be my best recommendation as it can be used with your current cameras. Would allow you to upgrade to HD cameras and would allow you to schedule backups to the second drive.
Unfortunately USB just isnt fast enough to keep up with regular recording but it could be backed up to it. Additionally you could configure an FTP backup but our tech support does not support that feature.

i think that will do it. do you recommend buying the HD from SCK and or buying elsewhere and installing them? thanks for the advice.

Either is fine but use western digital purples.
But if you purchase with us we do offer the warranty and it comes installed.
i'll be calling or email you to place order.
if i install a drive(s) does the DVR still have a warranty but not the drives?
comparing drive prices today.
i see seagate is shipping 8TB drives for 260.0usd. they aren't the western digital "NAS purple" types though. a "WD 4TB purple" can be had for 186.0usd
thanks for the help, talk with you tomorrow
The Western Digital Purples are not NAS drives they are Surveillance Equipment Drives. Western Digital Line of NAS Drives are the red line.
Note:
The 8TB Drives have not yet been aprooved for any of our Recorders.
