i'm looking at upgrading from TriDVR-EL16M4 to a PenDVR. i have 4 sata drives i would like to make use of so i looked at the the PenDVR-ELE16C-S as it's 1.5U but its resolution specs don't look quite as good as the and PenDVR-EL16M4, i.e., 1080P vs 4k. is that the case or am i mis-reading the specs?

Hello,

You certainly read the specifications correctly the PENDVR-ELE16C-S is a 1080p machine meaning it supports up to 2MP resolution and the PENDVR-EL16M4KX supports up to 4K resolution /8MP but has only x2 hard drive bays, although, the PENDVR-EL16M4KX offers much better compression which is h.264+ and supports up to 8TB drives for a total of 16TB which will provide longer retention time having the higher compression. The only other option would be to go with the full size 16ch the PENDVR-EL16-4MS which has 8 bays internally for drives up to 8TB each.

appreciate your reply. i read both have H.264+.  i have 4 drives now that i'm wanting to retire two elite dvr's and get a new one. i think the PENDVR-EL16M4KX is a better buy for me with the 4k when adding better IP cams. i'll give sales a call.
