We have a DVR-LT016480 currently running 11 of the 16 cameras. The owner wants to have 30 days recorded and with looking at the calculator in need 6tb for the format we are running. Looking back on some of the forums its stated that if you select over wright HDD when full it kicks to the next one, but will not kick back to the first drive. If what I read is correct then I need to buy one 6tb drive for my needs instead of two 3tb. Is this the case?

Also any recommended drives would be appreciated. I'm also looking to pull the current drives out of this system and adding them to our other DVR-LT16480MHD. I'm curious if I do this if I will have to upgrade the power supply on either machine.

  DVR-LT016480 INPUT 230/115V AC1.1/2.5A 50hz/60hz

  DVR-LT16480MHD INPUT 110/240v AC- 50/60hz

Chadsr21,

If you have 2x 3TB HDD's, when one is full it will kick to the second drive, then when that one is full it will begin writing over the oldest files on the first drive. It would not make any sense to have two drives it after the second drive is full it will not go back to the first one. So, the answer is, you can do either 1x 6TB or 2x 3TB's and be fine.

We recommend the WD Purple surveillance series drives. You can find in our list of downloads a list of compatible drives if you do not decide to go with the WD purples.

The input of the power supply is not what is important here, it matters what the power supply outputs to the DVR's. For the  DVR-LT016480 you do not need to change anything the power supply is built into the unit. For the MHD, you need to make sure it is 12v 3-5 amps.

Let me know if you have any further questions. Thank You!

Did make sound right to me either but was taking that from this post. https://www.securitycameraking.....rive-work/

I had looked at the purple series actually so I'm glad I was on the right track with it. As for the MHD the power supple would only matter if I add to the drives instead of replacing the original with larger drives right?

Not necessarily, larger drives will require more power. I am not sure that you will have an issue at all, just giving you best practice. 12v is mandatory or you will either fry it or it will not power up then 3-5 amps is good cushion. What amperage is it using now?
