The DVRs from late 2015 to now, come with these 3 types of H.264.
I noticed that some cameras do not look as crisp as they did before, and I am wondering if that could be the type of H.264 I am using, or DVR firmware, or maybe the camera firmware themselves - which has all changed.
Does anyone have any idea which of the 3 H.264 types produces the best quality?
Thanks,
Rory
Hey Rory,
From what I have learned so far about it is that H265 will give you a better image at a lower bit rate. However some underlying issues is that is has a higher CPU usage. This higher CPU usage can lead to playback issues on the local DVR depending on the unit's power. For streaming its looks great. Having seen that actually happen the playback get over decode-ability at the DVR monitor we will probably have to use a pc more and more to do playback. If you google H.264 , H.265 you will see what I saw and how to plan for it.

Thanks Dan, but I'm here to answer my own question 🙂
B is the Baseline Profile H.264 and H is the High Profile H.264, while just H.264 is the Main Profile.
Baseline is the more basic one, better for playback on slower devices.
Main and High add features on top of the Baseline.
