I recently purchased a 16 Channel Ultimate Mini Series D1 Realtime Security DVR. I got it all set up on the network and cameras showing in live view. I added a western digital red WD20EFRX 2TB hard drive. I formatted it through the dvr interface, set it to read/write and it shows as disk 1 with the proper size. However when I go into PSS and go to device setup | record | disk I receive the message "Failed to get local storage information". So I guess my question is will this drive work since it is reporting on the dvr correctly?

This could be because the HDD is not compatible. I suggest either an SV35 HDD or a Western Digital Purple Drive. The WD20EFRX is a NAS hard Drive not deigned for Surveillance Equipement.

You will also receive that message if the Smart PSS is not connecting to your DVR correctly. Are you able to live view within Smart PSS? Make sure you have your DVR selected on the left side before clicking on the Disk option.

Also, I've noticed that on some DVR's The HDD management info will not load in PSS even though all the other features are working. If you see the drive at the DVR interface or through the web service in Internet Explorer you should be fine.

Ill have to check on getting the playback through IE. I tried the disk option again and made sure I had the dvr selected on the left hand side and still came up with the failed to get local storage. Ive also ordered a 3tb WD purple drive so Im hoping that resolves the issue. Not a big fan of using the IE interface since PSS is so much cleaner and easier to use.

Well the good news is the recording magically started to work. I did a search and it shows days and times as expected and I didnt even need to switch the drive out. I would say that it mustve been needing the right reboot and time to catch up. Thanks for the insight.
