8 Megapixel CCTV Cameras
Security Camera King carries a wide range of amazing CCTV equipment, but did you know we carry 8 Megapixel CCTV cameras in both IP and COAX?
The dominant resolution in CCTV for many years now has been 2 Megapixels, also shown as 2MP or even better known as 1080p. 1080p is what we call full hd resolution, and was twice the sharpness and quality of its predecessor 720p or 1 Megapixel.
Over the years we’ve carried many cameras, and the 2MP camera line has been our hottest selling items and with good reason. The price to performance and quality on them has been unmatched. Now, 8 Megapixel cameras are becoming the standard- and are also becoming more affordable than ever. You may have heard 8MP being expressed by another common term, 4k. That’s because the resolution equivalent to 8mp is the now ever popular 4k resolution.
In fact it is now possible to select a high quality 4K IP video cameras from our catalog!
To truly appreciate how stunning these brand-new 4k cameras are, you’ll need two things: A 4K display and a recorder capable of accepting 4k inputs, wither that is an NVR or DVR depends on your usage case. For the most part COAX camera users will use DVRs, and IP camera users will use NVRs. Not to worry our sales pros can help you decide based on any existing equipment you might have, along with other details like your locations layout, which type of system is right for you. The most important thing is to make sure you have a 4k capable display! That’s because without one, you wont be able to see the staggering upgrade in quality going from 2mp to 8 megapixel cctv cameras.
Security camera king carries these devices in multiple camera housing options and feature sets. We have turret domes, vandal domes, and bullet styles for example. We have two of each of these styles because we have them in both fixed and motorized states. We’ll go over some of the differences in shell styles as we go, but there are a few that have unique qualities. Both of these things should be pointed out, as some cameras are fixed and others aren’t!
One thing that should be noted is that depending on the type of camera your working with, you may have limited options for FPS at 4k. FPS sis short for frames per second. When video is filmed, a camera is actually taking several still images in a single second of the scene its filming. these images are played back in rapid succession to generation the illusion of movement. The more images per second the camera takes, the more fluid the movement looks when played back at standard speed. Generally speaking, at 15 FPS and higher movement starts to look more smooth, and lower than this you’ll start to see some chop. This will not reduce the quality of the images capture, just the smoothness of them. Higher end 8 megapixel CCTV cameras will be able to handle 15 FPS or more, but lower and COAX cameras may only be able to do 7 – 10 fps. Depending on the location, the increase in quality is almost always worth the FPS tradeoff, but that’s for you to decide.
These units can use the standard H264 video compression, but they are also able to encode using the latest H265 compression, which provides a massive 64% reduction in file size for 8 Megapixel recordings verses staying with the standard using h264. Since this will save precious hard drive space and allow for more consecutive hours of footage to be stored, this is an extremely important feature and we highly recommend usage of h265 whenever possible.
All of our 8 megapixel CCTV cameras come with an Ip67 outdoor protection rating, so you can rest assured that they are suitable for use inside or out. At the end of the day, you’re going to get a magnificent color, 4k image. Infrared length is going to vary a little from model to model, below is a list of the different IR lengths available. At night, they all have an Smart IR to some degree for a clear monochrome image, or extremely low light areas as low as zero lux.
When it comes to the IP series in particular, make sure you speak with a sales pro before pulling the trigger. Not every feature is available on every camera. For audio and I/O, there are a few differences even amongst the same models. The Turret-style domes come equipped with a built-in microphone, which makes them ideal for recording audio over the network directly to your recorder. Additionally, both the Vandal Dome and The motorized Bullet, which both have audio and alarm I/O, also have external audio in and out. However, the fixed bullet does not have audio or alarm capabilities at all. The 4x optical zoom, as well as adjustable focus only available in the Motorized lens variant cameras, is available only in the Motorized lens variant cameras of this series.
